Sometimes it pays to go up to the guy you think might be out of your league and say hi. You might just be pleasantly surprised.

No matter what you have in your refrigerator or pantry, there's always something there to make a pot pie, or at least something you can call a "pot pie" and then dare your dinner guests not to eat.

Lesson learned (finally):
Don't leave bottles of narcotics in open view of guests. It's like leaving out an open box of doughnuts at a Weight Watchers meeting. I just hate that there are so very few people I can trust not to steal from me.

Saturday's Suggestion:

Given the current state (read: urbanization) of the entertainment industry, all parents should buy their children a CD set of 70s Gold and the first season of Charlies Angels on DVD and play them on heavy rotation so that we have a generation of Americans who grow up appreciating good lyrics and fabulous hairstyles.

God, I miss Farrah. And The Bee Gees.

I'm too old to go to bars where I have to get patted down and empty my pockets before entering.
I'm also too cheap to pay a cover charge for a bar where I am the one providing the entertainment.
*cough cough* Starz on Valley *cough cough*

I'm not too proud to admit I was wrong about Stella Artois. Damn, that beer is good, and it goes to show that every dark cloud can have a delicious beer-flavored lining.

Everyone loves a little drama. It's what makes an otherwise mundane existence a little more lively, a little more interesting.

But those people who say they don't like it? Man, stay AWAY from them, because it's like a full-on Shakespearean festival of drama with those folks.

Remember, the most surefire way to tell if someone is crazy is for them to tell you they aren't.

Beating someone with a bag of oranges does not leave bruises. Please remember that if one of your hos gets out of line. It's important to keep one's pimp hand strong.

In related news, I feel like I've been beaten with said sack of oranges. Even though I still want to live and have fun like I'm 25 years old, my lower back has different plans.

For those of you who claim to vote to do God's will, please remember that while you may be fooling the rest of the world, God knows the hatred, and unfortunately, the self-loathing that is really in your hearts.

It's always better to deliver relationship news in person. No matter how hard it might be at that moment to play the bad guy, it's a whole helluva lot easier than having a falling out over Post-Its.

Lesson learned:

Having a history with someone isn't a reason to have a future. Sometimes, it's OK to let go of old friends and acquaintances. You don't have to like everyone and not everyone has to like you, which is good, because I just don't think Andy McDowell and I will ever get along.

So-li-ci-ta-tion (noun).

1. the act of soliciting.
2. entreaty, urging, or importunity; a petition or request.
3. enticement or allurement.

Un-so-li-ci-ta-tion (noun).

a word I made up to mean the exact opposite.

Inspired by the likes of Andy Rooney and a very interesting post on one of my favorite internet sounding boards, I've decided to develop a blog where I very give, every day, a different life lesson I've learned. Sometimes, they'll be brief, sometimes, they'll be fleshed out. And sometimes, they may be nothing more than a song I suggest or a burger I want you to try, because let's face it, as amazing as I am, not even I am profound EVERY day. Well...ok...I am most days.

Are you soliciting my advice or even asking to be bored with the lessons I've learned? Nope. And that's the point. Read it if you want. Don't if you don't. And always feel free to share what you've learned on any given day, because who knows...it might just help someone avoid the same mistake down the road.
